Vashon Strong FLEX

VS-Flex is a little different from our other core programs. We trade out some “intensity” and “testing” for a little more “burn” and “aesthetics.” We give up the “prepared for anything” of a general preparedness program (GPP) to gain some more “OMG you look amazing.”

This is a great class to take if you are coming back to the gym after a long break - a chance to build up your strength and confidence. Or you can add this on top of any VSX workout on the same day.

VS-Flex will deliver a great workout every single time. This is functional strength + bodybuilding the Vashon Strong way!

What's involved

A. Functional Strength

Part A of each VS-Flex workout will consist of Functional Strength elements. At Vashon Strong, our definition of functional strength encompasses the movements and positions that have the most carry-over outside the walls of the gym. The most common motor patterns include squat, lunge, push, pull, press, hinge, and various holds. The Functional Strength element of VS-Flex will test athletes against these patterns with a variety of modalities: traditional lifting, tempo, volume, heavy, complimentary supersets, and interfering supersets. The majority of the time in the Functional Strength part, athletes will be getting a strong dose of time under tension.

B. Bodybuilding

Part B of each VS-Flex workout will consist of Bodybuilding elements. Overall, across the entire VS-Flex program athletes will get a full-body impact from the workouts. Many days, the assignment for Part B will be a “full-body” type of look and feel. This means athletes will be hitting exercises regularly that train each major muscle group. Other days, Part B might be more focused and isolated; however, when taken as a whole the program will elicit a full-body effect. We like this approach because it keeps training fun and fresh, doesn’t overstress singular muscle groups daily, allows for a complete week of training no matter if you hit 2, 3, or 4 days, and is proved to be effective through the approach we perfected in our GPP programming.

C. Optional conditioning

Occasionally, we will introduce mixed conditioning into the mix of VS-Flex. As the name hints, this will be conditioning-based and will mix different modes, time domains, and intensities.
