Embrace Your Season

Back in May, I wrote a piece about how the 4th of July was only 50 days away, or something like that. Now the 4th has come and passed, with great days of sun, festivals, birthday burpees, camping trips, and more.

Now Thanksgiving is only 90 days away.

Summer may be leaving you with some exhaustion. You may be tired of hosting friends and family, and done with leaving every weekend. If you're a parent, you could be overwhelmed at making sure the kids are shuttled to where they need to be. If you're in high school, the demands of training, summer jobs, and family trips also adds up. The good news is that things will change and seasonality is all part of the game.

This is a common time to feel like fitness has suffered because in all that fun it's hard to manage a consistent routine. You eat "on the go", stay up late, and stack activites on top of each other to the point of exhaustion. As much as we love summer, it's a good thing we don't have to do this year round!

The most fit people I know don't fight the seasons, they embrace them. When it's summer - they play and appreciate the freedom. When it's time to work, they settle in. They don't eat turkey and kale for Christmas Dinner, they also don't do a huge crash diet no-carb-cleanse-reset on Sept 1st either.

Just life. No shame or guilt about it.

If you're feeling like your fitness took a hit this summer, awesome! Don't beat yourself up, don't fill yourself with regrets about the scale or whatever it is. Just toss out the fruit snacks and the hot dogs and the ice-cream sandwiches, buy some meat and veggies, and plan your workouts for the week. It's that easy.

If you're a VS member, feel free to reach out to a coach (or to myself) and set an intention for this next phase of the year, so come Thanksgiving you can really say for sure you put in some good work and are ready to enjoy the holidays.

If you're not a member at VS, what are you waiting for!?
